The Jefferson Memorial was built in Washington in memory of the third President of the USA, Thomas Jefferson, who was also the author of the Declaration of Independence. The Memorial is surrounded by cherry trees.

The other well-known memorial of the USA is devoted to the sixteenth President of the USA, the author the Emancipation Proclamation, which gave freedom to Negro slaves in America.
It is a beautiful building of white marble designed like a Greek temple with a huge statue of Abraham Lincoln inside. The building has 36 columns which represent the states in the Union at the time of Lincoln's death.
