New York is famous for its skyscraperts. The first skyscraper in New York was built in 1902. It was twenty storeys high.

 

Nowadays the third tallest building in the world is the Empire State Building in the centre of New York. It has 102 floors and is 448 metres high. There are two observation platforms one - on the 86th and the other on the 102nd floor. Standing on the 102nd floor one can see on clear days the surrounding country-side for distances up to 80 miles.

 

New York's Times Square is the place where famous shops, movie houses or cinemas, hotels, restaurants, theatres and clubs are located. Times Square got its name from the "New York Times" the most popular newspaper in America, which has its main office there.
