HOLIDAYS IN GREAT BRITAIN
One more interesting holiday is Halloween. It is celebrated on the 31-st of October. The holiday is connected with witches and ghosts. People put on strange costumes and pretend they are witches. They tell thrilling stories. They cut horrible faces on pumpkins, put a candle inside and place this lantern on the window to frighten ghost.
In the evening groups of children go from house to house, knock at the doors and say, УTrick or treat.Ф (Which means Уif you donТt treat us to something tasty, we shall play a trick on you.Ф)
Of course, the people give them something nice.
A very funny holiday is, of course, April Fool's Day which is celebrated as everywhere in the world on the 1-st of April.
In England tricks can be played only in the morning. If a trick is played on you, you are a "noodle".
One more holiday to mention is Pancake Day. In the UK it is also known as Shrove Tuesday. It falls just before Lent, and was traditionally a day of feasting before fasting for 40 days of Lent. Pancake Day is celebrated with fun, games, and of course a lot of eating. However the most well known activity on this day is the Pancake Day race. People run with a pancake in a frying pan. They toss the pancake at least 3 times before the race is completed. But many of pancakes land on the floor.
