On the north side of the square there are the National Gallery and the National Portrait Gallery.

The National Gallery was built in 1824. It has a rich collection of pictures. More than 850 masterpieces of all the European schools of painting can be found there.

In the north-east corner of Trafalgar Square one can see the old and well-known church of St. Martin-in-the-Fields.
