PHILADELPHIA

Philadelphia is the largest city of Pennsylvania and the forth largest in the United States. The word "Philadelphia" is derived from two Greek words, philos meaning love, and adelphos, meaning brother; hence "City of Brotherly Love". Philadelphia is the city where the two most important decisions in American history were made. It is there that the Declaration of Independence was unanimously approved by thirteen British colonies on July 4, 1776. The country of 13 states was given the name of “The United States of America”. Then in 1787, representatives from all the states met in Philadelphia again to write the United States Constitution.
Independence Hall (Дворец Независимости), where both the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution were debated and adopted, is a red brick Georgian building. There you can find the inkstand and chair used by the singers of the Declaration of Independence. The famous Liberty Bell, which proclaimed the singing of the Declaration, hangs in a special pavillion on nearby Independence Mall (the broad plaza).
