BIRMINGHAM

Birmingham is the industrial heart of England. It is Britain's second city. More than one million people live there. It is situated in the Midlands. Birmingham is the most important town of this district. Because of the great variety of its industries people call it "the city of a thousand trades". All the pins and needles in English homes have been probably made in Birmingham. The pens that people write with, the spoons and forks they use for dinner, and the glasses from which they drink out of are mostly products of the Birmingham industry. It is quite possible, too, that many motor-cars, bicycles, radio and television sets and other things have come from Birmingham.
Birmingham is also the fourth-most visited city by foreign visitors in the United Kingdom.
